COVID-19 Press Release 13th March 2020 Somerset

Yesterday morning we spoke with BBC Somerset regarding our policy on caring for clients who have or are suspected of having the COVID-19 virus. We thought it would be useful to share our policy with you.

We are following national guidance at all times and working in partnership with Somerset Adult Social Care (Somerset County Council & Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group), for example, on the importance of frequent handwashing for a minimum of 20 seconds using soap and water and the use of hand sanitiser/PPE.

If staff feel unwell and feel that they may be suffering from COVID-19 they are told to ring 111 immediately, who may decide that they need to attend one of the 4 assessment centres.

If a staff member feels that a client they are visiting may be suffering from COVID-19, they are told to ring 111 immediately on their behalf. Depending on the outcome of the assessment, the staff member and any others who have been in contact with the client may have to self-isolate.

The welfare of our clients and staff is our priority, and we will continue to monitor the situation and the advice of the Government.

The above statement will apply to all our Local Authorities Commissioners that we work closely within Dorset, East Sussex and Wiltshire.
