Read more...Summer diets were forgotten this week when Candlelight Care in Wimborne held a cake sale in aid of The Alzheimer’s Society. A huge number of cupcakes had been baked by the staff, with one staff member baking over 200 by herself!
Read more...The first-ever company-wide Candlelight Care Outstanding Achievement Awards took place yesterday at a lovely country hotel in Somerset. There were twenty-six finalists who were chosen from over three hundred nominations received from colleagues and clients.

Read more...Clients, family members and friends of Candlelight Care in Glastonbury were among the lucky guests at a community concert and tea party at King’s Bruton School last week.
The event is a regular fixture at the school and guests were treated to seven solo performances and, following a ‘Harlequin’ afternoon tea, music from The King’s Military Band.
We arranged for our clients to attend as part of the ‘Candlelight Community’ initiative, which organises events and outings for clients at various times throughout the year.
Tracy Weare, Registered Manager of Candlelight Care in Glastonbury, said, “I am delighted that some of our clients were able to attend this wonderful event. We are very grateful to King’s Bruton School for the invitation.”
Read more...We are proud to become the 190th organisation to adopt the Armed Forces Covenant in the South West and be among the 1,300 businesses who have already made their pledges across the UK.
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation, ensuring that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly. Businesses, from sole-trader to multinational, public bodies or charities who wish to support the Armed Forces community can sign the Covenant and publicly declare their commitments.
Read more...Care Coordinator Juliet Booth, Community Team Manager Jane Booth, and Junior Apprentice Scott Range were nominated in the ‘Outstanding Care Team’ category, and found out this week that they had reached the finals. They will discover if they have won the overall award in April.
Read more...The Sherborne branch of Save the Children has received a cheque from Candlelight Care in Sherborne for £61.50.
The money was raised in December and is a combination of the proceeds of a raffle held at Candlelight Care’s Client Christmas Party, and the staff participation in ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ the following week.
The cheque was presented by Lorna Kent, Registered Manager of Candlelight Care in Sherborne (pictured, left), and Amanda Bartlett (pictured, right), and was accepted on behalf of Save the Children by Jackie Brownjohn MBE (pictured, centre), who set up the Sherborne Branch of Save the Children 32 years ago.
Read more...Clients, family members and friends of Candlelight Care in Glastonbury were entertained by twelve members of the talented Chamber Choir from Bruton School for Girls this week. Almost thirty guests were treated to a programme of Christmas carols, songs and readings, whilst enjoying tea, coffee and mince pies. The event at Evercreech Village Hall was part of the ‘Candlelight Community’ initiative, which organises events and outings for its clients.
Read more...Candlelight Care welcomed special guests to our Trowbridge branch office this week for the opening of the new Assistive Technology room, developed in conjunction with the Aster Group. The two organisations have joined forces to help vulnerable people in the South West to remain safe and independent in their own homes. The Assistive Technology room will help to raise awareness of the superb and innovative range of equipment which the Aster Group can supply to create a safe environment for people wishing to remain at home, rather than be admitted into residential care.

Becky Davies (our Training Manager) is delivering information sessions to our staff so that they can learn more about what it is like for our clients (or their families) to live with Dementia, and learn how to turn that understanding into action. Anyone of any age can become a ‘Dementia Friend’ and it’s all about learning more about Dementia and the small ways we can help sufferers and their families – every action counts!
Read more...Our Sherborne branch has reached the finals of the Dorset Business Awards, their third recognition in just two months. They have been announced as finalists in the Team of the Year Award, just a few weeks after Manager Lorna Kent and Care Co-ordinator Juliet Booth became finalists in the Great South West Care Awards, in the ‘Home Care Manager’ and ‘Home Care Co-ordinator’ categories. They will find out if they have won the overall awards later this year.
