Candlelight is Committed to Dementia Friends
Candlelight Care are absolutely committed to encouraging their staff to become ‘Dementia Friends’.
Becky Davies (our Training Manager) is delivering information sessions to our staff so that they can learn more about what it is like for our clients (or their families) to live with Dementia, and learn how to turn that understanding into action.
The Alzheimer’s Society’s ‘Dementia Friends’ programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia and aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition. Candlelight Care is committed to encouraging their staff to become ‘Dementia Friends’ and staff in all our branches are attending information sessions run by the company’s Training Manager, Becky Davies. These sessions will help them understand more about what it is like for their clients and their families to live with Dementia and how to turn that understanding into action.
To date thirty-eight Candlelight Care staff across the South West have become Dementia Friends, and this will increase over the coming months.
Lorna Kent, Manager of Candlelight Care in Sherborne, said, “Many of our older clients have a degree of dementia, and by becoming ‘Dementia Friends’ our staff will be able to provide them with an enhanced level of understanding and support as well as delivering excellent care. We are delighted to support this wonderful national initiative.”
Anyone of any age can become a ‘Dementia Friend’ and it’s all about learning more about Dementia and the small ways we can help sufferers and their families – every action counts!
