The staff we employ at Candlelight all have one thing in common. They are dedicated, trustworthy, reliable and passionate about the job they do.
We choose our staff carefully and many of them have been with us for over a decade. This is important as it gives our clients the continuity of care from a small team of regular staff.
Our Employment Process - we carry out rigorous pre-employment checks which include a documented interview and selection process, full history of past employment, two written references, Disclosure and Barring Service checks, Protection of Vulnerable Adults checks (POVA), Protection of Children checks (POCA).
Our Staff Training - training staff to a high standard is one of our top priorities and we do this through our own in-house training department. All our new care staff go through a mandatory Induction Training course before they can begin to work for us. This gives them the fundamental knowledge they need and covers essential topics including moving and handling, safeguarding, first aid, food hygiene, fire safety, medication, infection control and dementia awareness.
Once their induction is completed they will spend time out in the community shadowing an experienced member of staff to build on the skills they have learned. They are continuously supported and have regular supervisions.
During their first three months with Candlelight they will also follow a Training Programme to give them a deeper knowledge and understanding of their work.
Throughout their career with us, all our staff receive training updates and have the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications. We also offer specialist training courses to any staff who would like to work in some of the more complex areas of care.
